Material list for courses at TheDarkroom

We try here to answer the basic question:

"WHAT DO I NEED FOR ATTENDING PHOTOGRAPHY COURSES AT THEDARKROOM?"

That's a very important question which cannot find any adequate answer without and adequate explanation. That's why we please ask you to wait until the beginning of the course. Since the first classes we will give you a complete understanding about all devices and gears a student photographer may need. For a professional career. That's our goal. We try to give the specific answers to who like to become photographer. 

So, not all gears are the same. It's impossible in this section to enter in the specific field of the gears, of cameras and computers. We simply ask you NOT TO BUY ANYTHING BEFORE THE COURSE BEGINS but to bring with you all materials and gears already owned. Normally students have at home all the rigs the school requires, but they don't know because they look old grandma's stuff. Fifty yeards old gears usually work for beginning.

Well, for a long term corse you'll need a film camera with one lens at least. Any camera will work for us, just make sure it has manual functions such as apertures and speed controls. In Florence you can also service it for a fair price. You also need a digital camera with the same specifications as for film. Please don't buy it right for the beginning of the course. It's much better to wait for the introductory lectures and then to buy the best camera for your goals. 

A certainty: if you need to buy a computer, buy a MacBook Pro  or a MacBook Air. There's little to say about Macs & Apple. They are the best machines with the best applications and the best operative system FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS. They solve so many troubles to the photographers and speed up their work in an impressive way. And we're not talking about just CPU speed. It's indeed a pay-back expense for your future professional career. The size of the screen is biggest question of our lives. Get a 13 inches for to travel easy and get it larger if you will not use it as a portable computer. Yes, it's a difficult answer. That's why the photographers we are all have a 13" laptop and a 27"+ desktop at home! No need to hurry up, just start with a 13" today. Tomorrow you'll think about the next Mac.

If you already own a Pc, don't worry! You can attend the full course with it and you will have no limitations to study the whole program. See the same specifications on the size of the screen as for the Macs above.

From the required photo-camera, both digital and film, to the computer and applications for the computer to carry out all tasks for the modern multimedia photography world of nowadays.

You will have plenty of time to buy the necessary gears after the beginning of the course, when you will have received all important and specific information about the best equipment that best suits your needs.
