ADVERTISEMENT AND COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Intensive workshop of photographic technique applied to commercial and advertisement photography, still-life and studio photography. The course involves the use of digital photocameras and large format cameras, editing and postproduction application such as Adobe Photoshop and Apple Aperture, studio lighting and studio accessories, lay-out concept and realization.
During the course matters such as composition, lighting, framing, communication with images will be discussed. Studio shooting session for the realization of individual pictures are scheduled.
Participants will have a photo studio available for the whole duration of the course, a digital lab equipped with individual iMac computers for the editing and post production of the images.
During the course projects will be assigned in order to produce a portfolio of still-life images self made by the participant.
Included in the program some topics include:
- Introduction and analysis of various photographic techniques applied to commercial, advertisement, industrial, catalogue. The role of the photographer as a creative.
- Workflow analysis: meeting with the client, materials research, studio set-up, composition. Study of composition and its relationship with the vision.
- Lighting and its importance: theater lighting, cinematographic lighting. histiry, properties, controls, placement, choice of lighting.
- Quality of light and color aspects: lights and shadows, message and communication. Colors and multiple sources of light.
- Analysis of as lighting influences various materials such as mirrors, crystals, steel, silver, etc... Controlling color, contrast, exposure. How to master the final result.
- Choice of the right equipment. The large format camera and its movements. How to control focus plane, depth of field, perspective. Digital solutions with SLR cameras for still-life photography.
- Analysis of printing techniques and problems related to the monitor output and calibration of printers.
- Adobe Photoshop as a postproduction tool: main tools for advertisement and commercial photography, post production of images, graphic editing.
Workshop is a practical course. Participants will be involved in practice of set up and shooting. They will post produce the shot made during the sessions in our digital lab equipped with Adobe Photoshop.
The goal of the course is to lead the participant to all phases of the making of a commercial or advertisement image, such as lay out and set up, subject composition, use of digital cameras, computer and Photoshop, use of view camera movements to control perspective and focal plane, digital post production.
The student will work with several different systems and will make experience of the advanced Photoshop tools in use in this field of photography.
Workshop level is advanced so it is necessary to have a previous photography experience of a good level, and to know how to use the computer and Photoshop elements.
Students will have detailed information about the materials to buy and where during the first day of class. As pre-information, the following personal supplies are necessary for being able to do the required work:
- digital photocamera
- a external hard drive of at least 250 GB to store your photos
- a USB cord to download photos directly from photocamera or a memory card reader
- at least a 2 GB memory card
