Mission

TheDarkroom, Department of Photography of Centro Italiano Firenze, offers academic, intensive and basic courses in photography for students of all ages coming from all over the world who are interested in starting or furthering their knowledge of this subject.

Our courses, which are arranged in different modes and at varying times, have been designed for both those who wish to become professional photographers as well as those who just want to have fun with photography yet at the same time receive expert training. The length depends on which course is chosen. At the end of the Academic Course students will have achieved the training required to start a career in photography.

Today’s ever changing and innovative multi-medial outlook is in need of multi-medial experts, skilled professionals and visual communication experts who are able to continually interpret in new ways the challenges of the modern technological world and of the Internet.

This is our mission – to train students to actively relate to the new business of photography. 

Whether it be photographic art or free expression, or fulfilling the requests of a client, the modern school must be able teach their students how to choose the best solution to the real problems of this “Internet society”. We want to train our students to become people with a critical approach to new technology, who know how to make the most of new opportunities which the worldwide web offers and who know how to globalise their product and their skills.

To study at The Darkroom means being part of a variegated and multi-faceted world, active and growing, in constant contact with all the fields of professional photography from the production of videos to publishing, advertising and editorials as well as web design. To put it briefly – the multi-medial world of today. Continuous contact with the teachers, experts and fellow workers provides a motivating force and cultural growth for all our students who always show great technical knowledge and critical skills once they become part of the world of work. Photographers, agencies and professional studios recognise that students from The Darkroom show a positive attitude as regards assuming responsibility in the production process.
