Starting tips

In this section you will find useful information about the equipment and materials required to begin your study in our school.

For Academic courses, you will need a manual film camera along with a pro-sumer or pro digital one. A series of lenses, from wide-angle to telephoto, and a flash unit are also required. If you already own a camera, bring it to the first day of class for assessment and check up. Otherwise we strongly recommend NOT to buy a camera, you will not need it for the first classes. During the first lectures you will have detailed instructions on which camera is better for you to buy and what expense is more convenient.

For darkroom courses you will need a set of ILFORD MULTIGRADE 15,2x15,2 cm filters, or AGFA or KODAK equivalent ones but of other brands, a colored pencil STAEDTLER OMICHROME 108, a magnifier loupe, a pair of scissors, a bottle opener for crown caps, and other mior consumer tools and material you will be informed of during your orientation day.

During the course you will also need a tripod. We will give you the information when the time comes. If you do have one, make sure its head provides the three movements required for photography. You will also need an external hard drive of at least 250 GB, two batteries for your digital camera, two memory cards, and several other minor gears that we will inform you about throughout the course. 

For other courses, if they are based on film, you will need at least a manual film camera with a lens, if they are digital, you will need at least a pro-sumer digital camera and an external hard drive of at least 250 GB.

All materials such as films, photo paper, and other materials will be purchased on location. Your teacher will give you all of the necessary information. 

The school is equipped with Apple iMac computers. The most important applications are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Apple Aperture, Apple Final Cut, and Apple iWork. You do not need to have a computer for the courses, but it will be necessary in your professional future. If you are thinking about buying a computer, we strongly recommend you buy a Mac. In this way you will take advantage of our digital facilities 100%, you will learn with the best environment that modern technology can offer, and you will become an expert with the most used and diffused system in the world of photography.
