Welcome to our new project called ‘Camera Work by TheDarkroom’. We are about to start a new issued magazine for to show what we are doing with photography and graphics inside our academy.
The new magazine closely recalls the famous one published by Alfred Stieglitz from 1902 on. No one doubts about its importance in the history of photography. We all owe Stieglitz’s work if Photography came up to a form of art itself and detached once for good from its cousin Painture.
Nowadays TheDarkroom academy is committed to new educational goals. We restarted the teaching of film photography and darkroom, because we believe the print as the highest form in the field of true Photography. We are back to teach film photography with our top-of-the-line academic course of Fine-Art Photography. In this course we aim to produce high quality prints. A summary of this body of work will be surely presented at the end of the year during our usual collective exhibition, which involves also the departments of Graphic Design, Video production and Web Design.
But one exhibition only cannot guest an important body of work such as the one produced during the fine-art photography course. It otherwise might remain stuck inside a draw for the rest of the times. So, why not to publish our works in a real magazine, printed, for to touch it and to carry it away with you? Indeed we are back to this old-new form of Photography that we call ‘slow photography’. A form of art that requires you taking you time for thinking, for elaborating your thoughts, for to get pleasure out of what you are doing, without rushing or hurrying up. We want to take our time back to us for to get the maximum pleasure out of Photography. This is the right place and time for a printed magazine such as our new project Camera Work by TheDarkroom.
This project has just started. We are in the middle of the brainstorming phase and photo editing. Our photography students are selecting their best works for a next in-class editing phase with our teachers. The students of Graphic Design department are working at the layout and the design of the entire magazine. So, this project is going to involve the two departments in a ‘melting pot’ project across the two media photography and graphics.
Today we put the first stone down. Follow us until the birth of the issue number zero. The magazine will be distributed for free. So, we are looking forward to meeting you at school to pick up your free copy soon. Stay tuned with us!
