Director. Andrea Moradei’s expertise is rooted in over thirty years experience with the schools and programs which he founded, such as ‘Koinè Center’ in Florence and ‘Centro Italiano’, Italian language schools for foreigners in Florence. He’s also creator of the ‘Pane, Vino e Lingua’ cooking and language program and of the ‘Enoteca de’ Giraldi’ in Florence, and founder of ‘Vinarium’ Travel Agency.
After a master in Philosophy, he began to work to promote the Italian language and culture in 1980, offering also a cultural approach to Tuscan wine and food. He speaks Italian, English, and French.
Students Affairs. Melisa Jiménez. Born in Guatemala, after winning several prizes for her paintings she moved to Florence, where she studied photography. She attended the 2010/11 professional Photography and Multimedia one-year academic course of ‘TheDarkroom School’ in Florence.
Since then she had exhibitions around Tuscany. She works as Graphic Designer and Web Master and works at the front desk of ‘Centro Italiano Firenze’. She speaks Italian, Spanish, and English.
Students Affairs. Anja Schultz. Originally from the North of Germany she has been living in Italy for more than 30 years working in different Italian language schools in Florence.
For 25 years she was on the head of ‘Centro Koinè’ as sales and promotion manager and in 2010 she co-founded ‘Centro Italiano Firenze’ where she is on the head of the Italian Language Department and Student Services. She speaks Italian, German, English and French.
Faculty Advisor. Michele Pero starts his career in 1992, working in commercial and advertisement photography between Florence and Milan. He then turns his career in photojournalism. As a war photographer pictures the conflicts of the Balkans of the 90s: Bosnia, Croatia, Albania, Kosovo. In 2012 he is back to war in Aleppo, Syria.
In 2002 he founds his own school “TheDarkroom”. He sells it in 2014 to the school Centro Italiano Firenze and it is today recognized by the Italian Ministry of the Education.
Michele is back to shooting on film and printing his own pictures in his darkroom. He has started a new exhibition tour over Europe in 2015. He has published two photography books: “La Dolce Vita Made in Germany” and “Goodbye sweet home”. His complete biography and his works available for sale are on his website www.michelepero.it.
Teacher of Photography. Franco Guardascione was born in Naples in 1969. Obtained a diploma in Graphic Advertisement and Photography, he began working with the Fototecnica of Naples, Controluce agency, the Superintendency of Cultural and Environmental Heritage of Naples, Salerno and Avellino.
In 1997 he approached the Accademia of Belle Arti of Naples, and became its official photographer.
In 2000 he moved to Tuscany and he began a collaboration with the Archivio Zeta theatrical company. In 2007 he began a research on the gypsies and immigrants from Eastern Europe. He met Patricio Estay, the head of the photo-journalistic agency Nazca Pictures, and a working relationship was established.
He cooperates with Vanity Fair, Corriere Magazine, Corriere Sette, Max, Cosmopolitan, A, Oggi and Chi magazines.
In 2010 his reportage on Italian Criminal Madhouses, performed during the “Visa pour l’image” in Perpignan, allowed him to win the Inquiry Reportage Award of the “Festival du Scoop” of Angers.
Teacher of Graphic Design. Francesco D’Isa teaches graphic design and web art for TheDarkroom Academy.
He is an artist, cartoonist, art curator, writer and journalist. He was born in 1980 in Florence, where he graduated in Philosophy.
His art has been exhibited in Europe, USA and Asia, his texts has been featured in Italian and foreign magazines (il Post, Pagina 99, Il sole 24 ore, il Corriere, RT Books Reviews). So far he has published a novel and a comic book (Nottetempo 2011, Effequ 2014). He speaks Italian, English and German.
Teacher of Video Production. Davide Morena is a professional author and founder of Sideways Snc, a company located in Florence that has been producing multimedia content for the last 15 years.
He graduated with a master’s degree in Electronic Imaging and Media Communications with a specialization in Sociology of Mass Communications at the University of Bradford (UK).
As a film critic, Davide has long been the editor in chief of www.mymovies.it. He has served on the jury in several italian short film festivals and has been widely published in magazines and catalogues (Korea Film Festival, Firenze Film Festival, Arrivano i Corti, Per un Pugno di Corti, etc.)
Davide has written several scripts for the theater, and for five years was the co-producer of the Mese Mediceo, a florentine theater festival dedicated to the Medici family.
He is the creator and author of several educational books and fictional characters for museums (Picchetto l’Archeologo, Giglio e Fiorenza, etc.).
Davide regularly writes and directs documentaries, short films, and corporate videos and he is also dedicated to his role as a composer and sound engineer.
Teacher of Video Production. Marcello Fittipaldi is co-founder and partner of Sideways Snc, a company that produces multimedia content in Florence for over 15 years.
Born in Naples in 1978 he graduated in Literature and Foreign Languages in Florence, and wrote a thesis on the maestro filmmaker Luis Buñuel.
He began working in video production field with the editorial staff of Toscana Channel, where he did a format on Indie music. Thus this began his journey which led him to open Sideways Snc, overseeing all video productions.
Marcello has directed, filmed and edited institutional, corporate and educational videos and documentaries for many major publishing groups, private companies, institutions and foundations such as RCS Media Group, MiBAC, Raffaello Editore, Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, etc. For many years he handled audiovisual maintenance for the Hard Rock Cafe International group in Italy. He has coordinated and directed numerous videos of live events with italian celebrities like Fernando Proce, Antonio Albanese, Checco Zalone, Enrico Bertolino, Alba Parietti, Paolo Cevoli, Enrico Brignano, etc. In 2015 he was part of the production team filming “Where To Invade Next”, the latest documentary by the famous american documentarian Michael Moore.
Teacher of Web Design. Nicola Petilli was born in Florence in 1967. In 1992 he entered the world of computer graphics and hypertexts with particular interest to problems related to structuration and communication of informations.
After the making of several “electronic books” he moved in 1994 from CD-ROM to Internet.
Since 1997 Nicola Petilli creates dynamic websites and during the years has gained remarkable experience in multilingual websites. Official webmaster of TheDarkroom since 2003.
Teacher of Photography. Gerardo studies photography in the United States for one year. Then he moves to Milan for about 3 years, where he works as an assistant photographer in the fashion business.
After this experience he moves to Florence to be staff photographer at ‘Massimo Sestini’ photojournalistic agency, working for La Repubblica and dealing with the press world.
To date he’s still working as a free-lance photojournalist for press agencies in Italy. In 2005 he opened his own photography studio called ‘Nonamephoto Florence’ together with his business partner Andrea Ruggeri. Gerardo is still developing his personal work for private clients, events and corporates.
Teacher of Photography. Michele Matracchi was born in Florence in 1980. He took his first steps into the world of professional photography in 2005. In 2008, after graduating from the International Academy of Photography TheDarkroom, he taught his first darkroom course.
After some years as a free-lance, in 2012 he opened ‘Grigio Medio’ in Florence. Here deals with fashion and commercial photography, graphic design and visual promotion of venues and events.
Since the beginning of this experience, his work has been published in Albania, Austria, Brazil, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong, Kosovo, Taipei, Taiwan, United Kingdom and United States. Personally continues to handle the photograph of the scene, with a focus on dance which is still the star of many of his side projects.
