Basic Level Course Overview
The three-month long photography and multimedia course – beginner level – introduces students to multimedia aspects of the photography career in today’s world.
This course is offered to those who are interested in the modern world of photography and want to gain the necessary knowledge to access the next training level.
Photography has changed. Nowadays one has to know how to promote and share his or her art on the Web and other media. More so than in the past, photographers are asked to film a podcast or interact with a website, by creating an online gallery, for instance. This quarter course aims at presenting the most general aspects of photography; also, its goal is to introduce our students to multimedia, in particular, how to create a website, video podcasting, blogging and social networking.
Three-month levels as part of the One-year academic course
The three-month basic, intermediate and advanced level courses are parts of the Photography and Multimedia Academic Professional One-year Course. Extra-EU students can take advantage in taking a three-month block course with no need for long-term VISA, getting out of Europe after three months and then back again to attend the next level.
Please note that attending just one ore two levels does not entitle to get the Professional Certificate. In this case a Certificate of Attendance will be issued for the attended levels only.
Goals and Objectives
Since the course is aimed at complete beginners, it offers basic knowledge of how to take pictures with a film and digital camera, use of lenses, film development, darkroom work, digital photography, digital development software and archiving, basics of aesthetics and composition, web design, managing photo galleries for the web site, blogging and social networking.
At the end of the three-month basic level the student has acquired skills for to use a film and a digital camera, develop and print black and white negatives, manage a digital archive. The student has also developed and activated his/her own personal website.
Get Professional Certificate through our recognized institute
The “Professional Photographer and Multimedia Expert” can be easily employed in a wide and diverse range of fields, such as photography, publishing industry, video and audio making. This professional figure can take pictures and videos that demand different styles and techniques, combining creativity and technical knowledge.
After completing the entire program (all three levels) and successfully passing both the modules and final exams, the student be issued a Professional Certificate in Photography and Multimedia Communications. Our Professional Certificate is recognised by the Ministry of Italian Education, in accordance with the law. (For more information, see the “Professional Certificate” web page). For attending just one or two of the modules, the student will be accredited with a Certificate of Attendance only.
Prerequisites and requirements
The course starts from a beginner level, so no previous knowledge of photography is required for Basic level. Students should own gears and materials as listed at the page Student Guide.
Attention, please: this course is taught in English language only. A quite good knowledge of English language is necessary to attend the course. It is recommended to attend an English language course before or beside the Academic course. You can add a Combined English language and Academic course, in order to study both subject matters and take advantage of the skills provided by our Academic courses.

Month 1 (Module 1). Film and Darkroom photography
Subject matters: Basics of photography techniques, use of b&w film and darkroom work
Introduces to the understanding of photography at a basic level, gives ability to use the film photo camera and standard lenses, introduces the art of photography for both film and digital.
This is our basic course of introduction to photography. It starts with the study of the film. In recent years film has powerfully come back, especially in the field of fine-art photography and in the market of art galleries. Many professionals want to offer a new “handmade” product which differs from digital photography, now broadly standardized. This is the course for to enter the “old/new age” of photography.
The course introduce to film camera operation, lenses, include exposure without the use of a light meter (Sunny 16 Rule), teaches about the process of classical image development (black and white negative film development), basics of darkroom, and explore the evolution of the photographic technique to develop a critical eye.

Month 2 (Module 2). Digital photography
Subject matters: Digital camera and Adobe Lightroom
Introduce to the use of the computer applied to photography, of digital photocameras and to digital imaging workflow.
In this program the student begins the study on the digital camera and the post production techniques at the computer.
The program includes the study of digital cameras, sensors, the shooting menus, the various functions of the camera, and the histogram for the management of RAW files.
Introduces the use of computer applications for the profession of photographer, processing of digital image with modern non-destructive applications (Adobe Lightroom), build of a digital archive and study of multimedia workflow management for professional applications.

Month 3 (Module 3). Web Design
Subject matters: Web design for photographers and WordPress blogging
It is dedicated to the creation of the website of the student with templates tools and to the understanding of SEO matters. The student will be motivated to publish their own website that will become a teaching tool for the organization of its work until the end of the course. Next, it will be the instrument for the promotion of their professional activities.
The site is today a necessary and fundamental affirmation of the photographer in the market. Our program intends to start building the website of the student at this level, yet the basic course to allow the development of the site in the following modules and arrive at the end of the year with a well-structured site, functioning and well placed in the search engines.
