TheDarkroom Academy - Introducing Camera Work, the new printed magazine by TheDarkroom, September 6th 2017

09/02/2017

Camera Work, September 6th 2017: Michele Pero, in collaboration with TheDarkroom Academy and Caffè Letterario Le Murate, is going to introduce his last creation “Camera Work by TheDarkroom”, the photography magazine by the school TheDarkroom Academy of Florence.

Last decade’s evolution of photography technology has seen a gradual disappearing of printed magazines as well as printed photographs. Social networks such as Instagram and various others bomb every day with tons of new images for fast-reading public. Reading time on single images hase decreased dramatically. Eye (and brain) saturation for too many images at a time is a fact. Nevertheless behind every single picture made there is a great effort and a lot of passion to implement a message that deserves a little bit mre time to spend on it. To “see” and not to “look” at is the leading motto. How can this happen with images cast to the social networks? Attention, time, reflection, meditation: every image deserves a little more attention to grab its many meanings hidden under the surface.

Michele Pero’s idea to make a product for to promote student’s work inside the school TheDarkroom Academy was in his draw for many years. Indeed promoting a photographic essay in which a great effort in terms of time and work were put in requires (deserves) a printed magazine which is suitable to make the pleasure of reading long lasting.
To print requires a great effort, in terms of work for to edit the magazine as well as in terms of money to invest in printing facilities.

This project was welcomed by Andrea Moradei, TheDarkroom Academy’s director, by the teachers of the school Franco Guardascione (photographer) and Francesco D’Isa (graphic designer). They have been working hard together with their respective students and also with Michele Pero’s ones of the Photography and Multimedia course, for to make the magazine.
Special thanks go to the solo-sponsor of this project, Universo Foto, which believed in the project since the beginning and without which help the magazine would have been published not.

Diffusion of the first issue is going to be door-to-door. Whoever may be interested in acquiring a copy can either pick up one copy for free at the school or order it via email writing at camerawork[at]thedarkroom[dot]it.

The magazine will be officially presented on September 6th at 6pm by the Caffè Letterario Le Murate, Piazza delle Murate, Firenze. Entrance is free.
