With photographers, and friends, of The Darkroom School (class 2011-2012) we started this project Florence Today to show what is known and unknown about the city of Florence and its life. This work Cascine Park wants to show how people spend their free time at the first ray of sun in spring.
What comes out at the first sight is people that lay on grass under the shadow of trees looking for a cool place or lay under the sun with their swimsuit to get ready for the coming summer.
In the park is noticeable people that like to enjoy their spare time making sports. Boys that play football in the big open space of the park setting the limits of the goal with bags. People that like to bike along the green and empty roads of the park. And people that like to play with their dogs.
Of course, families take this moment to spend time together having fun with their children. And children interested by events that takes place in the park.
With the long lens and being far from subjects I tried to catch situations in which subjects are at the pick of their funny, sweat, and beauty moments. I wanted to avoid that they could feel the presence of photographer.
There would have been fantastic get close and talk with people, but I did not want break the time where people are interacting and sharing the same moment. In fact, interaction is that it is possible to notice in these pictures. Interaction among players, among people and an environment away from the centre of the city, among babies and adults, among parents and their children… and between olds and…
This work wants to show then a glimpse of real life about people that daily live the city and to show that there is a life also far away from the centre.
